Grace Caughman

Memorial services will be held on January 30 in Canon City for former
Hillside area resident Grace Adeline Caughman, late of Canon City. Mrs.
Caughman died on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 2015. She was 91.
Mrs. Caughman was born on October 10th, 1924, in Saskatchewan,
Canada, to Leonard Adrian and Amy Ellen (Salsberry) Whitcomb. She and
her family came to the Hillside area when she was 15 years old, and it was
there she met her future husband. On January 13, 1941, in Raton, New
Mexico, she was united in marriage to Leslie Glen Caughman. Following
marriage, the couple lived in the Hillside area where her husband had a
timber and lumber operation. They lived more than 20 years in Hillside and
also lived briefly in Montrose. In 1966 they moved to Canon City. Her
greatest joy was homemaking and raising their six children. She held a
number of jobs outside the home including working at the St. Thomas More
Progressive Care Center in Canon City for more than 25 years. She retired
at the age of 78.
She was preceded in death by Leslie, her husband of 35 years, and their
only son, Leslie Leroy Caughman.
Mrs. Caughman is survived by five daughters: Beula Faye Boulter, Carol
Ann Michel, and Marilynn Jean Duran, all of Canon City, Colorado; Mary
Ellen Niles ( Mrs. Buzz) of Buena Vista, Colorado; Rita LaVonne (Mrs.
Lewis) Ranieri of Merrick, New York. Also surviving are 21 grandchildren,
44 great grandchildren and their families.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, January 30, 2016, at 2:00 pm at
the Harwood Chapel (516 N. 10thStreet) in Canon City, Colorado.
