Jewel Austin, 88, passed away at her home in Coal Creek, Colorado, November 19, 2015. She was born January 16, 1927 to Elmer and Dora (Mahler) Crowell in Memphis, Texas. Jewel married Glen Austin, and had three children. Jewel’s name fully describes here as she was a “jewel” to her family and friends. She loved her family, friends, God, gardening, crocheting, and quilting. She is survived by her children Dale (wife Shannon) Austin of Hobbs, New Mexico, Elaine Austin of Raton, New Mexico, Connie Higgs of Coal Creek, Colorado, and her niece that they raised, Loretta (husband Darin) Sherwod of Amarillo, Texas; sixteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, and two sisters, Evelyn Yurk of Thornton, Colorado and Lorene Stephens of Mineral Wells, Texas, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister and three brothers. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at 2pm at the Dalhart City Cemetery, 302 Cherry Street, Dalhart, Texas. Online condolences at Harwoodfunerals.com.
