John Sanchez Marquez

John Sanchez Marquez of Florence, CO, passed away at his home in the early morning of February 25th 2017 at the age of 83. He was born July 3, 1933 to Aurelio and Mary (Sanchez) Marquez in Oakland, CA. John served overseas in the US Army from 1951-1953, receiving 3 conduct medals. He married Diana Medeiros, the love of his life and had five children.   Known by his family as a quiet humble man, his life was full of passion, especially for the trains he worked on for 30 years with the Denver Rio Grande Railroad. Having recently celebrated his 60th wedding anniversary February 22nd, he leaves behind his wife Diana; daughters, Dannette Pontius,  Dorene Pratt;  sons, Ken (Dolores) Marquez,  John (Nikki) Marquez,  Mark (Ericka) Marquez;  grandchildren, Darla (Constance), Shannon (Rena), Mike, Alley (Karry), Kendra, (Heath), Garrett, Tyler, Austin, Sydney, Erik (Tina), Jonathan, Bryce, Mckenzie; great-grandchildren, Anthony, Addi, Kenna, Rylee and Araya. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren fondly remember the smell of his tobacco pipe. He is preceded by his parents.  A Celebration of Life will be held, 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at The Bell Tower Cultural Center, 201 E. 2nd St., Florence, CO.  Inurnment to follow at Union Highland Cemetery.
