Wilbur Ronald ‘Ron’ Vickerman , 75, passed away Sunday, July 30th at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs.
Ron was born March 15, 1942 in Pueblo, CO to Wilbur and Edith (Beck) Vickerman. He met his wife Mary while teaching at Byers Jr. High in Denver and they married a year later in Greeley, CO on August 10, 1968.
Ron and Mary continued their teaching careers in Manzanola, CO and finally in the mountains of Westcliffe, CO. Ron was a master of many subjects, but specialized in the Industrial Arts of Drafting, Woodshop, Welding and Auto Mechanics and Mary taught Home Economics for an amazing 22 years.
Ron enjoyed teaching, but took an early retirement to care for his ailing parents and moved to Canon City in 1994.
He loved so many things in his life and just a few of his favorites were making jewelry, refinishing furniture, hunting, traveling and YARD SALES! He was also an avid history and geology buff and he found Colorado to be one of the most amazing places on earth. Ron was a man of the people. He could start a conversation with anyone, any age and brighten their day.
Ron’s love for his family and his faith ran deep and he shared his wisdom with his children, grandchildren and great grandchild.
He is survived by his wife Mary, children Linda and Sandra, grandchildren Cody (Edith), Morgan and Chelsey and his great grandchild Adaline. Sister: Christal (James) Yankovich. Sister-in-law: Donna Beauchamp. Foster Brothers: Gerome Degree and Roger Squire. Nieces/ Nephews: Debra Keasling, Scott Beauchamp, Dustin Yankovich, Janelle (Trent) Hollister. Aunts/Uncles: Milla Vickerman and Steve (Elgetta) Hummel and numerous cousins.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents Wilbur and Edith (Beck) Vickerman and 3 brothers and 1 sister.
Services for Ron will be held at St. Michael Church in Canon City, Tuesday, August 8th beginning with a rosary @ 10:00AM followed by the funeral mass @ 10:30AM. Lunch will follow the services. Arrangements entrusted to Harwood Funeral Home. Online condolences at Harwoodfunerals.com.
