Mark Partain Obituary

Beloved friends and cherished family, we are gathered in spirit to celebrate the life and honor the memory of Mark Gregory Partain, known affectionately to many as Spanky, a man whose laughter and wisdom touched the hearts of all who knew him. Born on the 18th of February in the year of our Lord 1957, in the spirited city of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Mark commenced his heavenly journey on the 9th of February, 2024, from the serene surroundings of Westcliffe, Colorado. His departure, due to the tribulations of advanced diabetes and heart disease, has left a silence where once was the melody of his harmonica and the mirth of his laughter.

Mark's early years in Tulsa set a strong foundation for a life marked by determination, intellect, and joy. His pursuit of knowledge led him to the halls of ITT Technical Institute, emerging with not just a degree, but with a Bachelor's in Computer and Electrical Engineering—a testament to his intelligence and dedication. His professional career spanned three full decades at Hewlett Packard Enterprise, where his wit, wisdom, and work ethic were as legendary as the technological advancements he helped to pioneer.

As a man of family, Mark was the loving nucleus of an extensive and vibrant family tree. He leaves behind his devoted wife Renee Partain, his stalwart brother Steve Partain, and his caring sister Jeri Chadwick. His legacy is carried on through his sons Joseph, Graham, and Cory Priester, and through the lively spirits of his nephews Jason and Christopher Partain. The youth and promise of his grandchildren—Abrianna, Chase, Seth, Jacob, Kaydence, Railee, Austin, Emily, Tyler, Lirael, and Ryelle Priester—and the innocent wonder of his great-granddaughter Lilo Bazan, will forever be suffused with the stories and lessons he imparted.

Mark, a man of varied interests, found joy in the harmonious notes of the saxophone and the gentle breezes of the lakeside as he fished. His heart was happiest when surrounded by the beauty of nature while boating, camping, and adventuring in his RV, exploring the majesty of God's creation. He was a lover of games and jokes, a connoisseur of dining out, but above all, he was a connoisseur of life itself, relishing every moment with his beloved family.

Described as wise, funny, and intelligent, Mark's presence was a beacon of light and laughter. His wisdom was like a wellspring, his humor a balm to the soul, and his intelligence a guidepost for those seeking counsel. A man who lived his faith, Mark embodied the words of the Apostle Paul, who wrote in Colossians 3:14, "And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony." This verse was exemplified in his daily walk, as he stitched the fabric of love into every interaction, every relationship.

As we reflect upon the life of Mark Gregory Partain, let us embrace the fullness with which he lived and the love with which he embraced us all. While our hearts may ache with his absence, let us also rejoice, knowing that his journey now continues in the presence of our Heavenly Father, where harmonicas and saxophones echo in divine concert and the waters of eternal life abound with the promise of peace and rest.

In this moment of remembrance, let us carry forward the lessons Mark bestowed upon us—the importance of family, the joy of laughter, the pursuit of passion, and the embodiment of wisdom. Though his earthly melody may have come to a rest, the symphony of his influence will resonate endlessly through the lives he touched, the family he cherished, and the memories we hold dear.

May the love that Mark Gregory Partain poured into this world be returned to him tenfold as he is received into the arms of our Lord, and may we find comfort in the assurance that we too shall join him in joyous reunion when our time comes to cross that distant shore. Amen
