Vola Louise Yeoman, 88, was called home by her Lord on February 29th, 2024. She was born May 1st, 1935 in Colby, Kansas to Delphin and Wilburma Wells. The family moved to Colorado when Vola was a child and settled in Canon City. As a young adult Vola left Canon City, moving to Denver, then California and Texas, then finally returning to Colorado and living in Denver again for a time. It was there she met her future husband, Don Yeoman. They were married on May 3rd, 1958. She and Don made Florence their home, and it was there they raised their family.
Vola worked at the old St. Jospeh hospital as a nurse's aide, working her way up to the administrative office. She then found her calling as a "lunch lady" for the Florence Re-2 school district. She loved working the same hours that her children were in school, as this allowed her to be home when her family was.
She loved the Lord and had been a member of the First Southern Baptist church in Florence since 1974. She was a member of the "Grace Notes" choir, and they traveled throughout Colorado singing at revivals and church services. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority in Florence. The sorority booth was a stable for many years at Pioneer Day, where at the park, sorority members sold the best Sloppy Joes. Vola was also a room mother at Re-2 while her children attended school. She loved to crochet, sew, paint, and bake wedding cakes. She baked wedding cakes for many happy couples, including her daughter, Kelly.
Vola and Don were married for 55 years before his passing in 2014. They had 3 children together, Kelly (Eric) Morgan, Erin (Ron) Price and D.J. (Thecla) Yeoman. They survive Vola as well as her 8 grandchildren, Mason (Taylor) Morgan, Emily (Matthew) Barru, Joshua (Brandy) Price, Casey (Greg) Petersen, Mallory Yeoman, Marissa (Miles) Cagle, Michaela (Alex) Kefford and Dalton Yeoman. She was blessed with 8 great-grandchildren, Iris Morgan, Tristan Forsythe, Harper Price, Ford Petersen, Landon Provost, Maggie Cagle and Adelynn and Amelia Kefford. She is also survived by her sister Brenda Wells and many nieces and nephews, who lovingly called her Aunt Dodie. Vola was predeceased by her husband, her parents and her sisters, Reta Aljinovich and Delpha Grossman.
A private family graveside service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canon City Professional Firefighters, Local 1002 or Sangre De Cristo Hospice.
