Melvin (Mel) Daniel Semelbauer, age 83, formerly of Spring Lake, passed away Friday, June 1, 2018, at his home in Penrose, Colorado.
Mel was born February 24, 1935 in Muskegon Michigan, the son of Daniel and Selma Semelbauer. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1954 and served on the submarine USS Pomfret (SS-391). He married the love of his life, Norma J. Hecksel, on April 12,1958 in Coopersville, Michigan and they were married for 60 years. Mel worked as a production control manager at Bastien Blessing for many years.
He enjoyed his pets, working around the house creating gorgeous landscaping with rock and cactus and marveled at the simple things in life like a cactus in bloom or a bird in song. He loved walking the dry wash on their land looking for arrowheads and other interesting finds. Mel will be remembered for being gentle, kind hearted and caring with everyone he knew.
Mel is survived by his wife, Norma (Hecksel) Semelbauer, daughter, Debra (Scott) Jones, son, Dean Semelbauer, granddaughter, Alicia Jones and grandson, Brandon Jones. Mel was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Semelbauer.
