Paul Gallardo, Sr., of Florence, Colorado, passed away on Wednesday, June 20, 2018, at St. Thomas More Hospital at the age of 94. He was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend to all who knew and loved him. Mr. Gallardo was born on March 26, 1924, in Hastings, CO, to the late Feliciano and Cirila Gallardo. He worked for the Colorado Civilian Conservation Corps and served his country as a Private First Class in the 351st Infantry Regiment in the US Army from 1944 to 1945. He helped direct construction of the Cheyenne Mountain Complex where the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) was headquartered. Paul then worked for the Colorado Department of Corrections where he retired after twenty-two years of service. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Beatrice, his son, Paul Gallardo, Jr., his daughter, Antoinette G. Holcomb, his grandson, Paul Brandon Gallardo, and his ten siblings Maggie Hernandez, Tomasita Lave, Jesus Gallardo, Mike Gallardo, Mary Hernandez, Lupe Martinez, Grace Lopez, Annie Lopez, Eva Jimenez, and Joe Martinez, Jr.
He is survived by his son, Dennis Gallardo of Florence, his two grandsons, Steve Welch (Karen) of Pulaski, TN, and Donovan Gallardo (Cindy ) of Erie, CO, and his two granddaughters, Tina Dancer (Steven) of Madison, MS, and Tonya Sweeney (Rush) of Brandon, MS. He is also survived by eight great grandchildren, one great-great grandson and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Gallardo, Steve Welch, Steven Dancer, Rush Sweeney, Donovan Gallardo, Adolph Gallardo. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Vendetti, and Michael Vigil. The Funeral Mass officiated by Father John Farley will be Thursday, June 28, 2018, at 10:00 am at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Florence, CO.
