Walter Packard Obituary

Walter Russell Packard, 81, of Canon City, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on August 5, 2018.  He was born January 30, 1937 to Walter and Laverne Packard (Larkin) in Buena Vista, CO.  He graduated from Buena Vista High School in 1955, while attending high school Walt worked for Forman Garage.  Upon graduation he joined the Air Force and spent most of his service time in Kansas and Louisiana.  After completing 2 years in the service he returned to Canon City, where he then met and married Judith Marie Kearby Laub of Salida in June 1965 and was joined by her two daughters Dianna Marie and Beckey Jo.  Walt and Judy later had a son, Bryan Alan.  Mr. Packard worked for 25 yrs at the Departement of Corrections in Buena Vista where the family resided.  Upon retirement Walt and Judy moved back to Canon City to be close to their 3 children who were living in the area. He is survived by his wife, Judy of 53 years and children; Dianna (Zeke) VanDyke, Beckey Jo Laub (Robert Little), and Bryan (Lea Raye) Packard. Grandchildren; Sam (Rachael) VanDyke, Jesse (Briana) VanDyke, Todd (Jenna) VanDyke, Justin, Miranda and Wendy Hines, Levi Packard, Dustin (Kayla) McNeill, Jennifer Leverett, Jessica (Zeke) Farber, Crystal (Jeremy) Turner and numerous great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings; Joseph Packard and Carol Gibbens all of Buena Vista.  A special thanks to Miranda Hines, CNA, for all her loving care of her grandfather and to the folks at Sangre De CRisto for all of the things they did for Walter and the family.  Per Walter's request there will be a graveside service August 25th at 11AM at Coaldale Community Cemetery in Coldale, CO.  Chaplain Doyle Larkin will be officiating.  Arrangements entrusted to Harwood Funeral Home.  Online condolences at Harwoodfunerals.com.
