In a galaxy not so far away, Alyssa Van Doren lived loud; laughed harder.
She was born in Medford Oregon, where she would always go back to and
loved deeply. Alyssa marched to the beat of her own drum—even if that
drum was blasting heavy metal at full volume. Known to those who loved her as
Jeannebean or Lyss, Alyssa was a storm of chaos and big dreams, a rebel
with sharp eyeliner, ever-changing hair, and a heart that—despite it all—
loved fiercely.
She leaves behind four bright stars: Hayden, Gaige, Lydia, and Liam, who will
carry pieces of her spirit into the next generation of rebels, dreamers,
and force-wielders. Alyssa is also survived by her siblings Cecelia Heinze
(David), Sarah Johnston (Shawn), Joe Moore (Mariah), Sabrina Clement (Chris), as
well as many nieces, nephews, and those who saw her as more than just
family—but as a force all her own. Alyssa was preceded in death by both
of her parents, as well as her nephew, Michael Moore who is now joining
her in the stars.
Though Alyssa’s battles were many, so were her stories. She had a gift for
finding music that cracked people up and memories that stuck to your ribs.
From rope swings and river trips with her children, nieces and nephews, to
last-minute tattoos and lightsaber-wielding laughter, her life was a saga
of love, missteps, and try agains—even if only for a little while. Alyssa
loved to laugh with her family. It wasn’t always easy for her to navigate
her familial relationships, but when it came down to it, she loved her family
deeply and she was loved deeply in return. Alyssa adored her nieces and nephews, always bringing special gifts,
taking them swimming or just sending her love to them.
She loved concerts and getting to attend comic-cons with Darth Vader on
one side and a Stormtrooper on the other. She was a potterhead as well
and admired a good wand.
Alyssa may have left this world in the shadows, but don’t be fooled—she’s
one with the Force now. May her story be remembered. May her children
rise above the cycle, and may her memory always echo: “We loved you more
than you knew."
