Betty Cress Obituary

Betty Anne Cress, 79, Canon City, CO., died July 24, 2021 at home with her husband at her side.

Betty Anne Cress took great pride and joy in domestic activities, creating beautiful and intricate needlepoint pictures for each grandchild, children, and others. She was exemplary as a wife, mother, grandmother, homemaker, and friend. She actively supported the armed services and Patriot Guard. She believed in God, was an active member of the Lutheran Church, and actively practiced the principles of Christianity. She is survived by Milo Cress (husband), children; John Cress (Henderson, NV), Gene Krauel (Lincoln, NE), David Cress (Nunan, GA), James Krauel (Lincoln, NE), and seven grandchildren.

She was born near Exira, IA., on May 26, 1942, the daughter of Marius and Vivian Clausen. She completed elementary school and graduated from Exira High School in 1960. She married Bud Emmert Krauel, Jr. and moved to Fremont, NE, in 1960. Daughter, Teresa, was born and died in 1960. They moved to Fremont, NE, where in 1961 she began a career in bookkeeping and accounting at the Skogomo Store in Fremont. Son, James,  was born in 1963 and the family moved to Lincoln, NE. Betty began working in accounting for Cochran-Long Plumbing & Heating Company in 1963. Son, Gene was born in 1965. Betty continued working for Cochran-Long, and in 1978 became the primary caretaker of sons’ James and Gene. After a period of friendship with Milo Cress, and sons; David (10), Chris (8), and John (6); Betty and Milo were married in 1980. Subsequently, Betty worked for Greens Plumbing & Heating, Insurance Company, Nebraska Travel, Unlimited, Contact Travel, Midwest Unlimited Company, And Garcia-Chicoine Construction Company.

Son Gene, and Barb were married in (1989) giving her the joys of a daughter-in-law, and providing her with the joys of loving grandson, Dustin (1994), and granddaughter Cora (2000). Gene completed the Fire Protection Technology Program; and the Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Technology Program of study at Milford College and manages his own business. Grandson Dustin joined and served in the US Army from 2014 to 2018.

Son James and Gaylene were married in (1993) giving her the joys of a daughter-in-law and providing her with the joys of loving grandson, Brandon (1995), and granddaughter, Danielle (1996). James is a Marine and an accomplished carpenter.

Son David, and Britni were married in (2007) providing her the joy of a loving daughter-in-law, and grandson Caleb (2008). David graduated with a Degree in Finance from Phoenix University, and a Degree in Business Administration from Colorado State University, giving him an added sense of accomplishment in his profession as a Financial Analyst.

Son John graduated from Peru State College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree, and from Las Vegas University with a Masters Degree in Education.  He and Charity were married in 2008 providing her the joy of a loving daughter-in-law, and Grand-daughters, Bella (2009) and Kaia (2011).  Each continues to teach secondary school in Henderson, NV.

Betty and husband, Milo, moved to an acreage near Eagle, Nebraska in 1997 and enjoyed time together in a cabin near Cotopaxi, Colorado.  In 2011, they moved to Lincoln to be closer to teenage grandchildren as they emerged from High School, and then in 2014 they moved to Canon City, CO.

Betty retired from Garcia-Chicoine Enterprises in 2013 and transitioned to her full-time job as a homemaker-enjoying free time doing cross-stitch, volunteer work, grandchildren, gardening/flowers, and time with friends.
