On August 4, 2023, Bruce William Hitt passed away unexpectedly at home. He was born on March 24, 1954, in Bloomington, Illinois, the youngest child and only son of D. Bruce and Hazel Hitt.
On May 29, 1976, he and Susan Jones were married in Decatur, Illinois. The couple had three children:

Graduating in 1972 from Bloom Township High School, he then attended Eastern Illinois University, studying business.
After his marriage, he moved to Decatur to start his career. During the next few years he earned
his Associate of Science degree from Richland Community College and began work as an accountant.
In 1981, he was given the opportunity to move to Colorado with Hi-Flier Kite Manufacturing, which merged with Estes Industries in Penrose. While working in Colorado, he earned his bachelor's degree remotely through Western Illinois University. Bruce worked professionally through the years with companies in both Colorado Springs and Fremont County. At the time of his death, he was working as an accountant at Johnny's Plumbing and Heating, a business he had worked for since the early 2000's.
Bruce loved living in Colorado. He followed the Rockies, Nuggets, Broncos, Avalanche and for many years held season tickets for Colorado College hockey. When the children were still home, the family took camping trips and made a yearly trip to see grandparents and other family members in Illinois. After the children were grown, he and Sue enjoyed trips to other countries, took several cruises, and traveled to many states. He liked to ride his bicycle and also had a little motor scooter he enjoyed riding around town.
