Carl W. Hanowell, age 56, passed away on May 30, 2023, in Florence, Colorado. Carl was born on May 6, 1967, in Bellingham, Washington, to Percy and Gloria Hanowell. He attended Ferndale High School, where he graduated in 1985 and played trumpet in the marching band.
Carl was a hard-working man who had a successful career. He worked at Everson Cordage in Everson, WA, for some time before moving on to work for eight years at Intalco Aluminum Refinery in Ferndale, WA. Carl spent eight years at Conco Cement Pumping before finally fulfilling his dream of working on airplanes at Skywest Airlines in Colorado Springs, CO, where he worked as a fleet services supervisor.
In his free time, Carl enjoyed bowling on Thursday nights in the men's league at Mt. Baker Lanes for many years, as well as playing darts. He loved working on cars and doing outdoor projects. On Friday and Saturday nights, Carl could often be found sitting outside, weather permitting, watching On Patrol Live or COPS. He was an avid water and snow skier and enjoyed watching the Seattle Mariners and the Seattle Seahawks, despite being married to and raising 3 avid Denver Broncos fans, he was lucky to have a son share his love for the Seahawks. Carl also enjoyed NASCAR and hockey, and he cherished spending time with his family, watching outdoor movies and traveling together.
Carl was a quiet man with a big heart. He married Shelly Goin on May 18, 1991, in Ferndale, Washington, and they had four children together. He loved his family and was proud of all his children. Carl is survived by his wife, Shelly of Florence, CO, daughter Abby Bolin (George) of Blaine, WA, sons Kenneth and Matthew of Florence, CO, and Andrew (Ken) of Colorado Springs, CO, his mother Gloria Hanowell of Blaine, WA, sister Cindy Davis of Lynden, WA, brothers Barry Hanowell (Judy) of Blaine, WA, and Randy Hanowell (Kelly) of Maple Falls, WA, six grandchildren, and numerous other family members and close friends. Carl was preceded in death by his father, Percy Hanowell, sister Cheryl Hanowell Tatom, and brother Mike Hanowell.
Carl grew up attending Triumph Lutheran Church in Ferndale, WA, and in recent years, he attended CFAN in Colorado Springs, CO
An informal gathering to celebrate Carl's life is planned on Saturday, June 3, 2023@ 2pm, at 8815 Wolf Lake Dr. Colorado Springs, CO.. A service to follow in Washington will be held at a later date.
