Cathryn Dean Obituary

Cathryn Elizabeth Dewart Dean, 101, joined her son, Jack Alan Dean and husband, Jack Adam Dean, Wednesday morning, December 16, 2020.  Born July 7, 1919 to Stanley and Anna Rosander Dewart, she grew up in South Bend, Indiana.  In 1938 she married Jack Dean and moved to Berrien Springs, Michigan.  There she helped her husband with Dean's Dairy and the Shaker Farm while raising two children, Jack Alan and Julie Ann.  She was involved in many organizations including a Girl Scout Leader and very active in her church with friends and family. Leaving Southern Michigan, "Kay, Kate, Katie" moved to Southern Florida where she managed the Sea Lord Hotel on the Ocean in Palm Beach, Florida for over 20 years.  In 1995, Katie moved to Canon City where she became very active very quickly with her tennis group, New Neighbors, Community Concert Association, Gad-Abouts, and her beloved church family. She  always supported her family, daughter Julie, granddaughter Erika Kate Dean-Moore, grandson J. Hunter Dean-Moore (Amanda), and her 8 great grandchildren, Mare, Chloe, Asher, Aagia, Nimmy, Neva, Avin, and Elora, and loving friend/caregiver, Glenda Gordon. Mom had many successes in golf championships, tennis awards, skiing experiences, and numerous offices held in her many clubs and activities. Travels with her daughter and family members were very special memories for her.  Her numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends were confirmation of her love, generosity, encouragement, and selflessness. Her caring example provided to her dear family and friends remains true today and continues to influence all touched by her.
A future celebration will take place, but for now, embrace the holidays with parties and prayers, health and happiness.  Katie would want that.
If you wish, donations in Katie's name can be made to the Christian Science Society, P.O. Box 944, Canon City, CO, 81215.
