Charles Persinger, Sr. Obituary

Charles Allen Persinger, Sr. passed away on November 5, 2021, at St. Francis Medical Center in Colorado Springs, CO, after a two-week battle with COVID-19. He was born March 2, 1945, to Layland Dennis and Eva Ellen Marie Gifford West Persinger in Canon City, CO, and was a life-long resident. Charles enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and friends but especially with his grandkids. Due to a visual color deficiency, he could spot deer and elk before others. He loved taking rides to the high country, sharing stories about working on the Taylor Ranch, pulling chute gates for Taylor Rodeo Company, and riding on Waugh and Black Mountains. He loved watching old westerns and listening to Merle Haggard. Charles also played slow-pitch softball for many years on the Wilkerson Steel and Iron men’s team, was a long-time member of the Little Britches Rodeo Association, and was a lifetime member of the B.P.O.E. Lodge #610. He retired from the City of Canon City Public Works Department in 2008 after 31 ½ years of service in the Water Department. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Layland and Ellen Persinger; his sister, Dolly Persinger; his brother, Leroy Persinger; his sister-in-law, Dawn Persinger; and his brother-in-law, Larry Lewis. He is survived by his wife, Linda, of 56 years; his sister, Cindy Lewis of Parachute; and his brother, Dale Persinger of Colorado Springs. Also surviving Charles are his three children and their spouses; Charles, Jr. (Spanky) and Terri Persinger, Renee and Ron Watters, and Cory and Tim Martin; seven grandchildren, Justin Hale, Darren (Mason Frank) Watters, Briar Martin, Dana (Dominic England) Watters, and Sage Martin all of Canon City; Josh (Victoria) Patton of Lake Village, Indiana; and Caitlyn Patton of Cotopaxi; one great-grandchild, Elise Patton of Lake Village, Indiana; nieces and nephews, Mandy (Jake) Reigel of Grand Junction, Andrew (Tiffany) Lewis of Parachute, K’Sandra Lewis of Canon City, and Blake Persinger of Carson, Nevada; and great-nieces and great-nephews Addy and Gideon Reigel of Grand Junction, Landon, Allie, and Peyton Lewis of Parachute, TiCyn Gallegos, Talon Hardy, and Trenton Burgess of Canon City. Charles suffered from Alzheimer’s Disease, so in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to a charity of your choice. A Celebration of Life for brothers-in-law, Charles Persinger, Sr. and Larry Lewis, will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2022, at the 4-Mile Community Club located on the corner of East Main and Steinmeier in Canon City.  The service will begin at 1:00 p.m. with a pot luck meal to follow.
