Crystal Prather Obituary

Heaven must have needed another angel, because God called Crystal home at the young age of 28. Crystal was born in Memorial Hospital, Co. Springs, CO to Thomas Charles Prather and Desiree Anne Dyson. At age 3 she developed diabetes and, in the end, succumbed to complications of this disease in Baptist Hospital, Pensacola, FL. Her early years were spent in Lakewood, CO and Canon City. She graduated from Canon City’s Goal Academy High School in 2015. Crystal grew from a feisty, bubbly, stubborn little girl into a lovely, bright, independent, strong young woman. She loved nature and animals, with elephants being her favorite. She enjoyed doing crafts with the little ones. She was funny and competitive, especially at board games, once saying that a simple monopoly game could likely turn into a WWE smack down! Her life took on new meaning in 2018 when she met Glenn Compton Jr. and his children, Shelby and Walker. She loved them all and felt blessed to have them in her life. Her long desired wish to be a mother was fulfilled on Sep. 9, 2020, when her son, Julian Jones Compton was born: Her #1 accomplishment! Glenn, Crystal and Julian moved to Jay, FL in June 2025 with the goal of building a new life in a new place. She spent her mornings reading to Julian, teaching him the numbers and letters and how to spell his name. With the challenges of parenthood, Crystal felt it important to also improve herself. Such as: in caring for any toddler, take deep breaths as they try things for themselves. Be cool because everything is fixable. Show love and understanding because, after all. you are their safe place. Crystal and JJ were making significant strides together. Left reeling in her absence are fiancé Glenn; son Julian (age 5); stepdaughter Shelby; stepson Walker; dad Tom (Stephanie) Prather; grandmother Aquina (John) Coulter; future in-laws Glenn & Terri Compton; Glenn’s siblings; half-brother Jonah Massey; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Awaiting her with open arms in heaven are her mother Desiree; special pal great grandmother Clare Reynolds; maternal grandfather Robert T. Dyson Sr.; paternal grandparents William E. and Barbara C. Prather. A celebration of life will be held at Bridge to Life Church. 222 N Orchard, Canon City at noon on Feb 28th 2026. For those that can’t attend, a live streaming at youtube.com/ @bridgetolifechurch . In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to JJ’s Helping Paws or to the Autism Society of America.
