David Goodwin Obituary

A life Remembered

On Friday, October 22, 2021 at the age of 55, David E Goodwin was running his crane, doing what he loved, when our Lord and Savior Jesus called him home.  David was born July 23, 1966 in Canon City, Colorado to George E Goodwin and Cathleen Goodwin of Canon City.  David and his parents moved to various places in Colorado as he was growing up, but moved back to Canon City in 1980.  David graduated from Canon City High School in 1984.  Upon graduating he worked as Fremont County Sheriff’s Office first cadet for 3 years then worked at DOC for 6 years.

In 1992, Dave married the Love of his life, Trena J. (Scavarda) Goodwin.  In 1993, Dave was hired on as a paid firefighter after 7 years as a volunteer firefighter for the Canon City Fire Department.  In September 2014, Dave retired from the CCFD as a lieutenant and immediately started his own business called Liberty Crane and Welding.  Him and his wife worked together to build up the company that became well known around the Canon City area.

God blessed Dave and Trena with two great kids, Justin D. Goodwin and Alyssa D. Goodwin and within this last year Alyssa married Gannon Long and Justin married Katie Till to make our family complete.

Dave lived life to the fullest no matter what he was involved in.  His favorite things to do was spending time with his wife and kids, family, friends, and taking many trips just to get away, but the most important to him was getting outdoors and going to the mountains.  David was a servant of God who has touched so many lives in so many ways through his service to this community by jobs he performed, the people he came into contact daily, and even those he never met.

Dave had numerous talents and gifts from being a crane operator, welder, builder, mechanic, firearms instructor, meat cutter, avid hunter, and master chef just to name a few.  He was the ‘Jack of all Trades’, but the one he was most passionate about was being the ‘Crane Guy’.

There were many things that were important to Dave, but the top three were Faith, Family, & Freedom.

Dave is survived by his dearly beloved wife of 29 years, Trena: children, Justin (Katie) Goodwin, and Alyssa (Gannon) Long, and a grandchild on the way, Baby Goodwin; parents, George and Cathleen Goodwin; mother-in-law Nellie Scavarda, sister & brother in law Dixie (Bill) Reed and Debbie (Jim) Elledge, sister in law Fran Masse, brother & sister in law Kevin (Shawn) Casper; numerous nephews and nieces;  Aunt & Uncle Diane (John) Mahlberg and Colleen (Gary) Carroll, Aunt Jenny Burtard, Uncle & Aunt Kevin (Gayla) Day, numerous cousins and close friends.

Memorial Service is Friday, October 29, 2021 at 10 a.m., Canon Community Baptist Church, 1111 Monroe St. in Canon City with graveside services following at Mountain Vale Cemetery and a food fellowship back at the church.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Canon Community Baptist Church.  Services have been entrusted to Harwood Funeral Services located in Canon City, Colorado.
