Dawna Gail Hastings

Your wings were ready, but our hearts were not.  

The world lost a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, wife, sister, aunt and friend, on Thursday, January 20, 2022.  Dawna Gail Hastings passed away at the age of 65 in Canon City, Colorado.

She will be missed by her mother Betty Lou Scott; husband Alfred Hastings; children: Melissa Lillard, Kevin (Becky) Clark, Stephanie (Brian) Domina; grandchildren: Bailey (Nathan) Humphrey, Clark Lillard, Walter Lillard, BJ Domina, Katie Domina, Madeline Clark, Hayden Pipher, Landon Burke, Parker Clark and Gracie Clark; great grandchildren: Logan and Rowan Humphrey; and sister Cheryl Priest.

Also, step children Brian (Jeanette) Hastings, Sarah (John Phillips) Hastings, Jonathan Hastings, Kara (Ace) Spriggs, Mackenzie (Trystan) Seal, son-in-law Ross Barnhart and 15 more grandchildren.

She was greeted in heaven by her father Estel Scott (McMinnville, TN), brother Garen Scott (McMinnville, TN), numerous aunts and uncles but she was especially close to Chuck & Edna Eaton (Black Forest, CO) and Stepson Charles Hastings (Pueblo, CO).

Dawna was born in Fort Lee, Va. and lived many places throughout her life as an Army Brat.  She settled in Canon City, CO in 1992 with her three children to be close to her mother and sister.  Dawna worked for St. Thomas More Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation for 25 years and retired in 2017.  In 2007, she met and married Alfred Hasting.  After retirement, she would spend most days with her mother, grandchildren, enjoying local restaurants for lunch and playing the slot machines in Cripple Creek.  

This generous and loving woman loved chocolate, Mickey Mouse, teddy bears and most of all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She would beam with pride when she talked about them all and showed off their pictures.  Dawna gave her children endless love and continued support.  She worked hard to give her children tools to be successful, such as a strong work ethic, empathy, grit, independence, and selflessness.  

A viewing will be held in her honor on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 from 4 - 7 p.m. at The Harwood Funeral Home, 516 North 10th Street, Canon City, CO 81212.

Dawna will be honored on Thursday, January 27, 2022 at 1 p.m. at the Historic Church Conservancy, formerly First Presbyterian Church, 701 Macon Ave. Canon City, CO 81212.  Reception to follow.
