Dixie was born in Pueblo, Colorado, March 18, 1930. Her parents were John and Marie Daugherty. She was raised in Colorado Springs, Colorado and graduated from Colorado Springs High School in 1948. In 1949 Dixie married Kenneth Sluder and over the years they raised three children, Dan, Randy, and Terri. The family moved to the Canon City area in 1965. Her working career began in her senior year of high school with the Credit Reporting Company of Colorado Springs and would continue there for the next 25 years. She later worked for the Canon City Public Library and had 18 years of service with the state of Colorado. Dixie liked the good music of the past and also reminiscing and writing stories about times gone by and the people who were a part of her life over the years. She is survived by children Dan/Rita Sluder, Randy, and sister Shirley Lagette. She also leaves behind grandchildren John Brandy, Steven and Stacey and several great grandchildren.
