Donald John Gurr, born June 7, 1944, in Lampoc, California, passed away on January 5, 2026, at home in Penrose, Colorado, with his wife by his side. Though born in California, Don grew up and spent his childhood in Parowen, Utah, where he developed the values and work ethic that guided his life.
Don proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, reflecting his strong sense of duty and dedication. His lifelong career and passion was trucking, a profession he truly loved. Don enjoyed the open road, traveling across the country while hauling materials, and treasured the opportunities it gave him to visit with family along the way.
In his later years, Don settled in Colorado, where he married his beloved wife, Barbara. Together, they made their home in the quiet countryside of Penrose. Don found happiness golfing with good friends and took great comfort in the simple joy of sitting beside Barbara, watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.
Don is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; his children, daughter Sheri and son-in-law Ray Looney, and son Michael and daughter-in-law Karen; three stepchildren; five grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorris; his father, Elvin; and his brother, Stanley.
Don will be remembered for his good humor, his strong political opinions, and the unmistakable presence he brought into the lives of those around him. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Military services will be scheduled at a later date and will be announced to family and close friends.
