Dovie Marie Mosley, a 65 year resident of Canon City CO, died Saturday, July 24, 2021 at the Hildebrand Care Center after a lengthy illness. She was 91.
Dovie Dossey was born in Shawnee Oklahoma January 30, 1930. The family moved to California during the depression and infamous Oklahoma dust bowl era. They later settled in Dove Creek Colorado where her father was a farmer. She graduated from the Dolores County High School in 1947 and married Byron Grebe the same year. Byron and Dovie produced four boys in their ten-year marriage.
In addition to raising her four boys, Dovie worked in a variety of occupations. She was one of the first women in America to work in an un-secured men’s prison environment (pre-parole center) where she worked as an administrator. Later she worked at Shadow Hills Golf Club as a book keeper and finally, had a long and successful career in Real Estate Sales for Century 21.
Dovie was active in a number of charitable community organizations including volunteer work with Fremont Regional Hospice and Meals on Wheels. She was an avid bridge player in several social bridge groups as well as Tournament and Contract Bridge Clubs. She was also an active member of Shadow Hills Golf Club where she was the Ladies Club Champion for several years.
Dovie is survived by her sons, Gordon Grebe and Jeff Grebe; her eight grandchildren, Justin Grebe, Todd Grebe, Holland Carter, Brian Grebe, Amy Ricevuto, Brandon Grebe, Gretchen Grebe and Nicholas Grebe. As well as fifteen great-grandchildren. She was proceeded in death by her two sons, Greg Grebe and Stan Grebe; her parents Homer and Ella Dossey and by her seven brothers and sisters.
Dovie was one of those people who everybody remembered after meeting her for the first time. She was genuine, kind, strong, smart, generous and a loving woman, leaving an indelible impression on those that met her. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
There will be a memorial service held for Dovie on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 11:00 AM at the First Methodist Church, Canon City Colorado, followed by a lunch reception at the Canon City Elks Club at 12:30 PM.
