Jack Edwin Hicks, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on November 14, 2024, in Canon City, Colorado. Born on June 23, 1942, in Pueblo, Colorado, Jack's life was a testament to the love and dedication he had for his family, his country, and his community. Jack's youthful years were spent in the close-knit community of Pueblo, where he attended Central High School. After graduation, he bravely served his country in the Navy during the Vietnam War, a period that shaped much of his character and values. Upon his return, Jack's commitment to service continued as he joined the postal service, eventually becoming a respected postmaster in Penrose, Colorado, where he dedicated 30 years to serving his community. His work ethic and integrity were also evident in his time at the Buena Vista and Fremont Correctional facilities, where he was known for his fairness and respect for both colleagues and inmates. In 1965, Jack married the love of his life, Charlene, and together they built a foundation of love that would support their growing family for decades to come. The couple moved to Penrose in 1978, where they raised their four children: Michael Edward Hicks (Carol), Sherri Jean Hicks (Dinah), Gabriel Charles Hicks (Randena), and Daniel John Hicks (Christine). Jack was a pillar of strength and love for his children, guiding them with a gentle hand and a generous heart. Jack's life was enriched by the joy of his grandchildren, Clayton, Brittney, Chandler, Charles, Kyle, Elizabeth, Michelle, Bennett, and Evelyn, and he found great delight in his great-grandchildren, Tyler, Connor, Quannah, Giannah, Remington, and Nevaeh. He was a constant presence at their sporting events, school activities, and family gatherings, always ready with a word of encouragement or a warm embrace. His sister, Joan Reagan, also survives him, as they shared a lifetime of memories and a bond that could never be broken. Preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Mary, his sister Gwendolyn, brother Gilbert "Lyle," and grandson Kyle, Jack's legacy of love continues to live on through the lives of those he touched. Jack's interests were as varied as they were passionate. He was an avid softball player, a hunter of elk and deer, master level chess player, water skiing, camping, and a competitive bowler. His love for these activities was only surpassed by the love he had for his family. Jack's presence at family events was not just expected but cherished, as he was the heart of every gathering. To describe Jack as loving is an understatement. He was so full of joy and life. His warmth, generosity, and kindness were felt by everyone he met. He was a man who put others before himself, who listened more than he spoke, and whose actions always spoke louder than his words. Jack was a strong man of faith and loved his lord Jesus Christ very much. He loved playing with his children and loved his dog, Willy. Jack's love was a shelter for his family, a beacon for his friends, and a legacy that will endure through the generations. Jack Edwin Hicks lived a life that was full of purpose, joy, and love. As we say farewell to this remarkable man, we take comfort in the knowledge that his spirit will forever be a guiding light in the lives of those who knew him. His journey on earth may have ended, but his story will continue to be told through the countless lives he touched. A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Please join us in celebrating Jack's life, remembering the love he shared, and the difference he made in each of our lives. Jack's memory will be cherished and kept alive by all who were fortunate enough to know him. Celebration of Life will be held Saturday November 30, 2024, at 11 A.M. at Solid Rock Christian Fellowship Church in Florence, Colorado.
