Jackie Colgan

Jackie Colgan passed away in Canon City, Colorado on 9-8-2022, at the age of 95. She was born November 15, 1926 to Irl M. and Lena Taliaferro in Salida Colorado. She grew up an outdoor enthusiast and enjoyed snow skiing, ice skating, tennis and riding horses.  After graduating high school, she moved to Denver and attended Barns Business School, where she met her husband of 45 years, Joe Dan Colgan.  She and Joe jitterbugged and danced the night away before they married and moved to Canon City where they created a family with three children, Larry, Chere and Michelle Colgan. 
Jackie was a working woman of the times, being employed as an executive secretary at the Royal Gorge Bridge Company and Harbison Walker Refractories. Later, she was involved with the business aspects of the Phillips 66 station on highway 50, managed by her husband.  She and Joe moved to Missoula, Montana in 1971, where she joined The Bank of Montana System and was an Escrow Officer in both their Missoula and Helena offices.
She and Joe loved to fish the rivers of Montana, Idaho, Wyoming and Colorado.  Not only could she stand toe to toe with any fisherman of the day for the largest and most fish caught, but she could bring it home and turn it into a culinary delight.  She was never one to sit idle and enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and was an excellent seamstress creating most of her childrens' clothes.  She loved all animals and throughout her life had everything from dogs, cats, horses, pigs and cows. 
After she and her husband retired, they moved back to Canon City to be near family.  She was a devout catholic and was a member of Saint Michael's Catholic Church for many years.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, and her son, Larry Colgan.  She is survived by her daughters, Chere Paxton and Michelle Colgan; Grandsons Mike Paxton  and Brian Paxton (Jen); and 4 Great Grandchildren, Jordyn Lund, Kaysie Paxton, Lauren Paxton and Levi Paxton.
We want to thank Jackie's caregivers at Progressive Care Center and Sangria de Cristo Hospice for their tireless work. The funeral arrangements were handled through Harwood Funeral Home.
