John Donald Blatnick

John Donald Blatnick, 88, of Florence died Sunday, April 29, 2018. Born on December 29, 1929 in Prospect Heights, Colorado. One of eleven children of Ignace and Maria Blatnick, recent immigrates from Yugoslavia. He was a frequent visitor to casinos of Cripple Creek. John was very interested in County and Florence governments. He was a frequent caller to KRLN 1400 AM. John was a champion for causes he believed in and devoted much of his time to them. John was a strong advocate for putting in a rail on Hwy 115 between Florence and Penrose, known as the Kristen Lawson rail. His last questions to the Florence city leaders are "Where is the new pool? Where is that tax money going? and "Why is there still not a sidewalk between the Vets home and Florence?" Some of his most memorable jobs were working the gardens and at a canning factory at a young age to serving in the US Army during the Korean War. He spent 25 years truck driving, much of it for Don Ward, and worked 25 years for the Florence Post Office. Survived by one sister, Barbara Blatnick, of Denver; his only child, Timothy (Helen) Blatnick; grandchildren Jeremy Blatnick of Florence and Kristen Partridge of New Hampshire; step grandchildren Carl Angerman of Florence and Abigail Angerman of Pueblo West; many nephews and nieces. One year ago he lost his wife of 64 years, Joy Blatnick. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 3rd from 5-7PM at Harwood Chapel, 516 N. 10th Street, Canon City with Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM, Friday, May 4, 2018 at St. Benedicts Catholic Church, 622 W. 2nd, Florence, CO.
