Obituary

On the evening of Friday May 5th, 2023, Kris Adam Liddell was called back to his home in heaven after courageously battling stage four Glioblastoma brain cancer for nearly twelve and a half years. Kris was born along with his twin brother Chad Liddell in Logan, Utah on November 10, 1971 to Jolene and Carl Liddell. Kris and his siblings, Sandra, Chad, and Dan, grew up in Delta, Colorado and later moved to Alamosa, Colorado where Kris graduated from high school. At Alamosa High School, Kris discovered many of his skilled passions that he incorporated throughout his life. He began creating beautiful woodworking craft projects, and enjoyed doing well in wrestling and golf. One of Kris’s first jobs in high school was performing sprinkler repair and installation. Kris maintained his faith throughout his life, and served a mission in Japan for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints following high school. Kris’s mission left a lifelong impression on him to work hard, serve others, and be a friend to all.

Kris valued education and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Adams State College and later a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs. Kris was a beloved elementary school teacher at Evan’s Elementary and a popular wood shop teacher at Horizon Middle School. He became a sports coach at HMS and created numerous life long bonds throughout his teaching career. In 2010, Kris was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer and could no longer teach. He returned back to his knowledge of sprinkler work and labored for years despite having brain cancer. He valued his fitness and learned about nutrition and wellness up until his final months. In the latter part of 2022, Kris’s cancer began having serious life-altering effects on him and his family. Kris had multiple surgeries and medical complications. In the spring of 2023, Kris chose to be at home instead of the hospital for his final days. He spent his last moments on Earth surrounded by his family in his home in Penrose, Colorado. Kris is survived by his wife Akemi Liddell, daughters Emily Liddell and Kelcie Liddell, sons Rylan Liddell and Nathan Liddell, siblings Sandra Overfelt, Chad Liddell, and Dan Liddell, and their mother Jolene Liddell. Kris is forever intertwined in his community by the memories held by his family members, community members, and church friends. Kris is accompanied in heaven with his father Carl Liddell.

Funeral services will be held 9:00AM, Friday, May 12, 2023 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1435 Elm Ave, Cañon City, CO 81212, with burial to follow at Alamosa Municipal Cemetery, Alamosa, Colorado.
