Lula Moody Obituary

Lula Nell Moody was born March 13, 1941 in Harrison, Arkansas to Jesse and Mary Ray.  She spent most of her upbringing in Canon City, Colorado growing-up on Central Avenue with her surviving brother Harlan (Pat) Ray of Mulvane, Kansas.  On May 2, 1959 she married Everett Lee Zade with whom she had four children.  They later parted and she married Ralph Clinton Moody on July 6, 1980.  Ralph brought with him two children that Lula welcomed in with open arms and their families became one.  Ralph and Lula were married until Ralph passed away on May 20, 2010 and from there Lula moved forward on her own.

As a young woman, Lula was an average student but took classes as long as she could and became an LPN earlier in life and truly enjoyed her nursing career until she retired to enjoy her family more.  Later in life, Lula enjoyed volunteering and spending time with friends at the Penrose Senior Center and she continued to serve others, working in the Senior Center Thrift store until its closing.  Lula had a lifelong passion not only for taking care of others but also of crafts, crochet, scrapbooking and many other hobbies.  She loved dolls and Barbie's and hoarded them in a locked room, much to the dismay and annoyance of her granddaughters.

Lula left us to join many family members but leaves behind a large family as well.  This includes Everett Zade of Fowler, Colorado and her grandchildren Christine Zade of Wallace, Nebraska; Christopher Mazur of Garden City, Kansas; David Schreiber of Fowler, Colorado; Little Everett Zade of Bowie, Texas; Jason (Liberty) Zade of Canon City, Colorado; and Jesse (Lydia) Zade of Manzanola, Colorado.

Leo (Tracy) Zade of Butler, Pennsylvania and her grandchildren Leslie Zade (preceding); Melanie (Craig) Tiffen of East Hampton, Connecticut; Lindsay Zade of Douglas, Massachusetts; Johnathan Zade of Commerce City, Colorado; and Joshua Zade of Commerce City, Colorado.  Mary (Marvin) Rowe of Idaho Springs, Colorado.  William Dee (Misty) Zade of Penrose, Colorado and her grandchildren Tyler (Star) Zade of Penrose; Timothy (Calista) Zade of Penrose, Colorado.  Steve (Deanne) Moody of Greeley, Colorado; and Tammy (Frank) Tomasek of Ralston, Nebraska.

The family would like to extend their great thanks to the Progressive Care Center staff and Residents for taking great care of Lula and for being another family to her.

Services will be at 10:00 am on Monday, April 8, 2024 at the Steeple Event Center on 7th and Macon with viewing available for 1 hour prior and 1 hour following the service, then, Lula will be laid to rest at Mountain Vale Gardens with her husband, Ralph.  At Noon, the family will host a casual reception and meal at the Penrose Recreation Community Center, located at the Penrose Park.
