Mary Lesle, passed away at her home in Canon City, CO, August 14, 2021 at
the age of 83.
Mary was born on November 13, 1937 to “Jake” and Ethel Mozena. She was
the 8th of 9 children and was raised on a farm that did not yet have indoor
plumbing in rural Iowa. Mary graduated in 1956 from Bayard High School
where she enjoyed pep club, glee club and playing basketball. She was also a
wonderful cook and had a great sense of humor. She loved pulling the
occasional fun prank. If there was fun going on, she was right in the middle.
She liked to knit, crochet, curl, and knew how to hold her mouth “just right”
while fishing. Mary loved the Lord and her family greatly, especially the
children.
She met her husband, Claire Lesle, at a dance in Carroll, IA, fell in love and
soon married in 1957. Mary lived in Iowa for several years after her
marriage where she had 2 sons, Craig & Mark, and 1 daughter, Elizabeth
(stillborn). In 1967 Mary & her family moved to the Mankato, MN area
where they lived for more than 30 years. After retirement, Mary & Claire
moved to Colorado Springs which they soon decided was just “too big” and
a year later moved to Norcatur, KS. Mary & Claire enjoyed almost 50 years
of marriage when Claire passed away in 2007. In 2011 Mary moved to
Canon City to be closer to family.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, 4 brothers
and 3 sisters. She is survived by her brother, Jim (Charlotte), sons Craig
(Lori) and Mark (Ute), grandchildren Tim (Alisa), Tony (Heather), Michelle
(Josh), Amy (Steven), Sami (Chris), 13 great-grandchildren and many nieces
and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at a later date in Iowa.
