Rebecca “Becky” Jean Otto unexpectedly passed from this earthly journey due to natural causes on August 3, 2022 at her Canon City home. Becky was the beloved daughter of Douglas and Muriel “Patty” (Fessler) Otto, born on March 24, 1961, in Colorado Springs, Colorado and little sister to Kristin.
Becky loved the mountains and lived her entire life in Colorado. She referred to the Sangre de Cristo’s as her “home range”. Treks to the high mountain lakes above the Westcliffe area were a favorite pastime for a number of years. She enjoyed hiking and camping with her sister and friends, Sunday evening dinners at mom’s house, and tending to her flower gardens.
Becky worked at a variety of jobs in Fremont County over the course of 40-plus years, including The Daily Record, Greeley Gas, Shadow Hills Golf Course, Merlino’s Belvedere, and the Owl Cigar Store. She was also a long-time volunteer for the Fremont Community Foundation and was involved with many of their fundraising events during the 11 years she was affiliated with the organization. Most recently, she was self-employed and operated her own cleaning service.
Becky is survived by her mother Muriel “Patty” Otto, sister Kristin “Kris” Hegler, brother-in-law John Hegler, aunts Carol Root and Marilyn Gash, uncle Wayne Fessler, extended family and friends, and faithful feline companion, “Fluff”. She was preceded in death by her father Douglas Otto and grandparents, Ralph and Clara Otto and Arthur and Clara Fessler.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 20th at 2:00pm at the Brookside Community Center, 1720 Brookside Avenue in Canon City. Her family invites you to share a favorite memory of her if you wish.
Memorial contributions in Becky’s name can be made to Fremont Community Foundation, 901 Main Street, Canon City, CO 81212.
