Richard Colwell Obituary

Richard David Colwell, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2024, in Colorado Springs, at the age of 59. Born on August 7, 1964, in San Luis Obispo, California then raised in Tacoma Washington.

Richard was the eldest son of David Colwell and the late Donna Brock Colwell. Born in San Louis Obispo, his formative years were in Tacoma, Washington where he became first in his family to graduate high school.  He maintained a close bond with his family, including his big  sister, Tamera Colwell Brewer and  his little brother James. Richard was also blessed with a brother of his heart, Brian Haines. Together, they shared countless adventures and formed an unbreakable bond that stood the test of time.

Richard was blessed with a devoted wife of 25 years. Hannah Nelson Colwell joined the marriage with three grown daughters. He very much loved being a father to Connie Nelson, Zenita Hormas, and Sami Kleinschmidt. Richard's role as a husband and father was the one he cherished most.

Richard's life could sometimes be difficult due to health concerns from birth.  He overcame and persevered beyond the limitations set for him by the world. Richard's life was a testament to his passions. He was an ardent fan of '80s hair bands, and his soul would light up at the sounds of Kiss, ACDC, Motorhead, Steelheart, and Scorpions. His love for music was only matched by his dedication to the Seattle Seahawks, whose games he never missed, and his immense affection for all things Star Wars and Star Trek. Many an evening was spent with family and friends, discussing the finer points of intergalactic lore or reliving the adventures of The Fall Guy.

As we say goodbye to Richard, we celebrate a life lived with many obstacles he overcame. His was a spirit that refused to be dimmed, touching the lives of all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Richard's story is one of love, laughter, strength, and a zest for life that will continue to inspire those he left behind.

In honoring Richard's memory, we reflect on the words of one of his favorite Star Wars characters, Yoda: "Death is a natural part of life. Rejoice for those around you who transform into the Force." Richard has now transformed into the Force that surrounds us, guides us, and binds us together in the tapestry of life.

Farewell, Richard David Colwell. May your journey be filled with the music you loved, the adventures you cherished, and the laughter that you shared with us all. May you never again experience pain. Your passion and dry sense of humor have left an indelible mark on this world, and you will forever be in our hearts.
