Richard “Dick” Earl Couch, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2024, in Penrose, Colorado. Born on August 16, 1940, in Garden City Kansas, to Earl and Mary Louise Couch. Dick’s journey through life was marked by devotion to his Lord, his family, a passion for his work, and an unwavering zest for adventure.
After bravely serving in the United States Army, Dick married his soulmate, Sharon Drake, on September 21, 1963, in Pueblo, Colorado. Their union was a testament to enduring love, and together they built a life full of joy and shared dreams.
Professionally, Dick was known for his dedication and ambitious spirit. He owned and operated Pueblo Marine and Cycle, where he combined his love for waterskiing with his business expertise. He owned and operated SDI Enterprises doing general contracting work including building and remodeling homes, restaurants, and office buildings, further exemplifying his versatile talents and commitment to excellence. He was a true Renaissance man.
Dick's interests extended beyond his professional endeavors. In his younger days, he was an avid water-skier, and loved camping, especially at Lake City, Colorado. As he aged, he enjoyed woodworking, creating many exquisite pieces of furniture such as desks, tables, and lamps. His infectious enthusiasm and the twinkle in his eye were most evident when he was skimming across the water, camping, or sharing his passion with others.
Left to cherish Dick's memory are his wife, Sharon Couch; his children, Deanna Michelle Downer (Weldon) and Brian Richard Couch (Libby); and his beloved grandchildren, Victoria, McKenna, Brandi, Olivia, Isaac, Donovan, and Aubrey as well as 6 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. His legacy of love and laughter will live on in each of them, as they continue to navigate the world with the lessons and memories he imparted.
Dick was preceded in death by parents, Earl and Mary Louise, and his sister, Joyce Beck (Bill). His departure leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but the impact of his life's work and the warmth of his spirit remain as a comforting presence.
Those who had the pleasure of knowing Dick will remember him as a man of integrity and generosity. He was a figure of strength and support in his community and church where he served many years as a youth leader and deacon. He was always willing to lend a hand or share a word of encouragement. His presence was a source of stability and comfort to his family, who found in him an unwavering pillar of support.
As we reflect on Dick's life, we are reminded of the love he so freely gave and the lives he touched. He was a man who made the most of every moment, inspiring others to do the same. His story is one of a life well-lived, filled with purpose, joy, and an abundance of love.
In honoring Dick's memory, we celebrate a life that exemplified the best of what it means to be human—kindness, commitment, and an enduring love that transcends time. Dick will be dearly missed, but the essence of his being will forever be woven into the fabric of the lives he touched.
Celebration of life will be held Friday November 15, 2024, at 1 P.M. at The Avenue Church in Pueblo, Colorado, 3030 Thatcher Ave.
