Shelly Anne Carter

Shelly Carter, 48 years old, of Canon City, passed away on 6/9/2023 in Canon City.

Celebration of life will be held at 2pm on June 25th at Penrose Park. Shelly did not want a funeral. She specifically asked for a celebration of life so to honor her wishes we will be doing a potluck. Everyone can bring a dish if they wish to. As everyone knows my mom had a goofy sense of humor and wouldn’t want everyone dressed up all fancy, so if you would like to wear full onesie pajamas or pajamas in general feel free to.

Shelly was born in Florence Co to Mike Carter and Gail Whitley on 6/21/1974. She went to school in the town of Florence. She worked as a caregiver in assisted livings at Legacy Center and The Friendship house for many years. Shelly took pride in her job as a caregiver and would go above and beyond to make sure her residents were always taken care of.

Shelly is preceded in death by Gail Whitley, Mike Carter, and her Step dad Bill Whitley.

Shelly is survived by her daughter Rachel Cekis (Jay Cekis), Shontelle Benson ( Christopher Valdez), her sisters Brandie Hodgin (Johnny Hodgin), Brenda Dallaire ( Dustin Kanaday), Jennifer Gordon (Jeremey Gordon). Her brother Shaun Carter. Grandchildren Jayden Cekis, Hadley Cekis, Jay jr Cekis, Oliver Valdez, Harmony Valdez and her newest grandbaby who has not yet been born yet Harleen Valdez. She was also survived by April Houghton, Andrea Marquez, Sydney Carter, Samantha Hodgin, Christian Hodgin, and Cheynne Parker. The list could go on as she was friends with just about anyone who would walk in her path.
