Shirley Meek

Shirley Meek (74) of Canon City passed away on August 6, 2018 at the Sangre De Cristo Hospice House in Pueblo CO after a 10-year battle with Leukemia. The youngest of five children, she was born December 28, 1943 in Petersburg Illinois. Shirley graduated High School in Whitehall IL in 1962 and married Jerry M Meek on December 9, 1962. They had 2 sons, Tom and Jeff. In 1977 the family moved to Missouri and then to Howard Colorado in 1980.  In 1987 Jerry and Shirley moved to Salida CO and then to Buena Vista in 1991. Shirley was the Mountain Medical Clinic Office Manager until retiring due to her illness in 2009. After 24 years in Buena Vista, they moved to Canon City in 2015 to be closer to family.

Shirley will be remembered for how much she loved her family. She loved having family over for dinner, games, playing music and just visiting. She made long and lasting friendships and was loved by all that knew her.

She is survived by her husband Jerry of 55-1/2 years, children Tom (Kelly) Meek - Canon City, Jeff (Nicole) Meek - Canon City, grandchildren Brittany (Jeremy) Willyard - Pueblo West, Erica (Trevor) Marshall of Canon City, Josh (Brianna) Meek - San Diego CA, Justin Meek - Cheyenne WY, Jackson Meek - Canon City, Keegan Meek - Canon City, great grandchildren Matthew Meek - San Diego CA, Carter Marshall - Canon City and Oliver Meek - Cheyenne WY, siblings Evelyn Wiley - Versailles IL, Tom Sorrells - Canon City, Judy (Eddie) Young of Winchester IL, &  Melvin (Vicki) Sorrells of Mt. Sterling IL, many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and other family members.

She was preceded in death by her Father & Mother, Theodore and Doris Sorrells of Mt. Sterling IL and her Father-in-law and Mother-in-law Phaon and Bernice Meek of Whitehall IL.

Shirley loved her family and her lord Jesus Christ. She will be deeply missed on this earth but will be joined by her family one day in heaven.

A Memorial Service will be held for Shirley at 11 AM on August 22, 2018, at the Canon Community Baptist Church, 1111 Monroe Ave, Cañon City, CO 81212

In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made to the Orchard of Hope, 111 N Orchard Ave, Cañon City, CO 81212.
