Terry Friend Obituary

Terry Jean Friend, 77, of Canon City, Colorado, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2025 in the very place she was born and raised. Born on November 18, 1947 to Daniel Frank Harris and Dorothy June Livengood-Harris. Terry grew up on a ranch outside of Canon City where she attended a one-room country school through the 9th grade and began Canon City High School in the 10th grade. There, she was a proud member of the Rainbow Girls. She graduated with the class of 1965. On April 27, 1968 she married Loren James "Jim" Patton at the First Baptist Church in Canon City. Together they welcomed their daughter Shannon in May of 1969. Terry graduated from beauty school in 1976. She owned and operated Marian's Beauty Shop for 12 years. In the early 90's, Terry went back to school and became a teacher of cosmetology in Colorado Springs and Alamosa, mentoring students with compassion, humor, and skill. She was a member of the Elks Lodge and served as the president of the Elkettes. She was active in the Little Britches Rodeo.

She found love again later in life, marrying Richard "Buck" Friend. Together they embraced retirement with adventurous hearts.

Terry loved deeply and lived life fully. She found joy in crafting, traveling, writing heartfelt poems, dancing, reading, watering her yard, and watching deer and birds from her window. She cared for her garden the way she cared for people, tending with love, attention, and patience. She was always checking in with those around her to see if they were okay. Her fierce independence, strength, and warmth left an imprint on everyone she met.

Terry was preceded in death by her husband Buck Friend, her parents Daniel and June Harris, and her granddaughter Chelsey Shane Patton. She is survived by her loving sister Carol Ann Harris, her daughter Shannon (Joseph) Davis, her cherished grandchildren Trysten (Penny) Hinton, Colt, Cody, Brittney, Danielle, Sam, Kaitlyn, and Gabriel, her step children Jeanette (Robert) Russo, Victoria (Matt) Friend, and Nathan Friend. She also leaves behind adored nieces and nephews, Nicki (Mark) Herman, Tim Porter, Ty (Doni) Porter, Zeke (Carrie) Porter, and numerous great nieces and nephews who will carry on her memory.

Terry's legacy in one of resilience, creativity, and unwavering love. Her spirit will live on in every flower that blooms, every kind word shared, and every moment of courage sparked by her memory. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to cancer research in her honor.

Services will be held at the Steeple Event Center, 701 Macon, in Canon City, Friday June 20, 2025 at 11 A.M.
