Our loving father, passed away peacefully on Sunday July 13th, 2025 in Penrose Colorado. Born on July 20, 1966, in Des Moines Iowa. Walter(Dink) was the epitome of hard work, dedication, and love.
As a skilled carpenter, Walter worked very hard to provide for his family in the construction industry until a back injury prevented him from continuing his trade. He never let this stop him from continuing to provide for his family. He always ensured that everyone around him had more than they need. He took immense pride in his craft and taught many family and friends trade skills that will leave a lasting legacy of quality craftsmanship for years to come.
Always on the lookout for a great deal, fair trade or good find. Dink was always on the hunt. Second hand stores, liquidation marts and antique shops were always some of his favorite stops. He was never above taking free junk and turning it into something great! His imagination was obvious when he spoke of or was on the hunt for Treasure! Metal detecting, gold panning and searching the woods and wild forest always seemed to bring the childhood excitement back to him. From time to time he would “get a good one” and find something of great value. He could spot real gold from a mile away! He always kept his gold he had panned close to his side at all times. He had an eagle eye that was nearly supernatural.
Admittedly a believer in Sasquatch, aliens cryptic creatures and the like, he knew there was more to this world than what we know and see. Even though he was not a religious man he knew there was something beyond this human form. He let us know often that when he’s gone he would “let us know when he’s around”. Then would tell the story of when he was talking about Tina and she “Threw things across the room”!
An avid hunter and fisherman he prided himself on his abilities and knowledge. He enjoyed shooting guns and working with knives. Always encouraging others to be prepared to defend themselves he never took any shit from anyone, he expected the same from his own. No matter his tone or expression everything he did was for the people around him. Even though it may not have outwardly seemed that way at times.
He loved to cook for others and would often say “other people need to taste it when they’re cooking to see if it’s seasoned right or good, I can tell by the SMELL!” Smoked and grilled foods were among his favorites to cook for his friends and family. He always cooked plenty for everyone and he made sure you were full! And even though he was diabetic he was never afraid of a good buffet or a massive slice of chocolate cake! He also drank enough coffee that he should have been sponsored by Folgers! He always took it straight up, black.
He enjoyed a good time with good music and good people. Being an advocate of cannabis and its many benefits he enjoyed what he enjoyed and didn’t care what you thought about it.
He loved working with leather and gifting things he had made to the people he loved.
The memories we’ve made together we will all cherish for our lifetimes. But you left us too soon, cancer robbed us of you. None of us were ready for you to go! We each have a void that can never be filled. But that void reminds us of you, of your love, and of what you mean to each and every one of us. We know you’re no longer in pain and that eases our grief briefly. We will never be the same without you, but we are who we are today because of you, thank you!
Not only a father Walter was a great friend, Partner/boyfriend, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and teacher.

In lieu of flowers please share your favorite memories, thoughts or pictures. There has been a go fund me set up for the family to help cover expenses and the future celebration of life event. If you’re able and willing, any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thank you again to those who have contributed already. Walter will be missed greatly by many.
