Wanda L. States, 93 of Penrose stepped peacefully into the presence of her Master and Savior on January 29, 2025. She was born in Durango to Irvin and Siddie Widick March 13, 1931, and moved to Penrose when she was 8 years old. She is predeceased by her parents, three brothers, two sisters, her husband Kenneth, infant daughter Joan, son Leroy, grandson Paul, son-in-law Dave Curtis and great-granddaughter Realee. She is survived by her children, Darlene (Rick) McDermott, Jeanne (Harvey) Hammel, Bonnie Curtis, Gary (Tammy) States, and Michael (Jenny) States. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, Kirk, Wendy, Bob, Jason, Kristi, Philip, Amanda, Audrey, Jeff, Matthew, Kellie, Selena, Devin and Alyssa, 7 great-grandchildren Bryce, Madisyn, Kynlee, Cara, Neil, Aaliyah, Ava and one great-great granddaughter, Alia. She also has numerous nieces and nephews. She was the true meaning of a home-maker, canning fruits and vegetables, dressing, cutting and freezing chickens along with other meats, and even running irrigation water on their farm while raising six children. She drove a school bus, worked as a baker in her niece’s donut shop as well as Walmart. She loved embroidery work and taught herself to crochet, creating many beautiful doilies, scarves and afghans. “Death leaves a heartache no one can heal; love leaves a memory no one can steal.” Anonymous A graveside service will be held at Beaver Park Cemetery at 12 o’clock on February 7, 2025.
