Joe had a peaceful depth and decency of character. Among all the turmoil of daily life, he would take a step back and seemed to know what could and could not be done in a situation. I remember when I first started my job that Joe was very helpful. He lent a calming influence and was a great colleague. We shared an interest in reading and I noticed how he always had a book at hand. Overall, a life well lived. My since condolence to all his family.

Joe was so kind, gentle and warm. He and I were close growing up. He shared his birthday with my Mom and she treasured his calls on that day. He came to see me in Denver very shortly after my amputation carrying a yellow rose. It was so thoughtful and kind and wonderful to see him and know he was thinking of me. I hold dear memories of him in my heart. He left too soon, but know he was loved! Praying for you and yours.

Our paths placed us in different circles but I always enjoyed it when those paths crossed. At last opportunity, he patiently coached me on roasting coffee. I think I will take him up on it now. Whether the topic was about the farm, coffee, the rural community or family, he spoke in a quiet way but always wiith passion, conviction and a certain ring of earnestness in his voice and eyes. They say that great men change the world but then they sort of do it from a great distance. But good men like Joe walk amongst us and change the world for the better every day of their lives by their deeds and committment to family and community. Joe was a Good Man and we will miss him greatly.

Joe's ability to figure out what's needed, together with his vast knowledge of the "system," provided many, many solutions to Rural Colorado.
With his ready smile and willingness to go the extra mile, Joe was an inspiration.
Thanks, Joe.

I met Joe one Sunday at his home in Canon City. He was a gracious host and had checked for recipes online in order to prepare a meal for me when Nancy and I returned from a day of adventure in Canon City. He cooked a fine pork roast and sweet potatoes. I jokingly said " I was afraid you would cook Mexican food and he answered back " I was afraid you were Jewish".
We both had a chuckle and sat down to enjoy his meal. I feel I have known him for a long time through association with Nancy. His picture depicts his kind nature. I know his family will miss his greatly. God Bless you Joe ! Charlotte Orrahood
