Leonard J. Gillis, Jr.

Leonard J. Gillis, Jr., passed away August 29, 2016 in Canon City. He was born June 17, 1936 to Leonard and Martha (Degroot) Gillis, Sr., in Fairbault, MN. A strong and vibrant man, Leonard loved to hunt and when he wasn’t busy with his career as a mason, you would find him in the beautiful mountains of Colorado hunting with his boys. Leonard married Marie Martinez, the love of his life and they were married 58 years and had three children. He was predeceased by his parents, daughter, Pam Gillis and brother Donnie Gillis. He is survived by his wife Marie; children, Mike (Patti) Gillis, Gary (Cheryl) Gillis; grandchildren, Travis Williams, Megan Gillis, Christa Crossno, Rachel (Nick) Curtis; great-grandchildren, Hunter Williams and Cullen Bleu Curtis; siblings, Harold Gillis, Marlene Morris and James (Carolyn) Gillis. A Vigil will be held at 4:00P.M., Thursday, September 1, 2016 with a 9:00 A.M., Funeral Mass and burial Friday, September 2, 2016, both to be held at St. Michael's Catholic Church on 11th and College and burial will proceed at Mountain Vale Cemetery on 1700 Chestnut St. Arrangements entrusted to Harwood Funeral Home.
