Joyce LaVonne O’Dell, 66, passed away October 14, 2016. She was born April 6, 1950 to Jim and Ella May (Wilson) Douglas in Colorado Springs, CO. Joyce spent most of her life in Canon City having graduated from CCHS with the Class of 1968. During her youth, she spent a summer as a lifeguard at the local swimming pool. Joyce married Vernon O’Dell, Jr., the love of her life in 1976 and had five children. Many will remember Joyce as a candy striper at Bethesda Nursing Home. Joyce was a talented artist and spent free time drawing and painting, she also loved butterflies which she collected with enthusiasm. Most of all, she loved her children, family and babies. She is survived by her husband, Vernon; children, Paul O’Dell, Jennifer (Ken) Castanzo, Mark (Levi) O’Dell, Jason (Acacia) Partida, Tim (Mary Ann) O’Dell; brothers, David (Leona) Douglas, Paul (Paula) Douglas; grandchildren, Nick, Damien, Sharon, Zane, David, Aiden, Hyler, Bradley, Brian, Kimberly, Makayla and Jordan. She was preceded by her parents. A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00 Noon, Friday, October 21, 2016 at Harwood Chapel, 516 N. 10th Canon City, CO, 81212. A potluck luncheon will follow at the Chapel.
